Sanoma Magazines International

Sanoma Magazines International (SMI) is among the top European cross media publishing houses. The company is part of Sanoma Magazines, a division of Sanoma. Sanoma Magazines International is responsible for Sanoma Magazines' activities in Central, East and South East Europe. It has leading market positions in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Russia.

The company's objective is to be or to become the number one cross media publisher in its chosen markets. Within this objective, SMI seeks expansion into other European countries and optimization of opportunities and revenue through synergy and the development of cross media concepts.

SMI publishes over 150 consumer magazines mainly targeted at women and about 15 B2B titles. At the same time it runs internet sites, three newspapers and other activities like fairs and events. In 2008 SMI had a net revenue of € 306.7 million.

SMI supports its local management in determining the direction in major issues like strategy, launches, acquisitions and HR policy. It acts as knowledge centre and sounding board, facilitates editorial guidance and support. SMI HQ monitors quality, targets, potential synergies and cost savings. Its experience with greenfield operations, mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures is instrumental in developing and strengthening the market position of its local operations.
